Under each County the several Parishes, Towns and principal Villages have been arranged in strict Alphabetical order, with a view to facility of reference, and the names of the Magistrates, the Members of the County Councils, the County Officers, &c, have been given. The Cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow, with a Street Directory in each case, are given separately.
In addition to the ordinary lists of the private residents and trading classes, there is also one of the " Principal Seats," with references to the pages on which these are to be found, and the names of the occupiers. Prefixed to the Book is a complete Index to the whole of the places given therein. For obvious and patriotic reasons all Naval and Military information has been omitted from this edition of the Directory.
